Two centers, in<br>Milan and Belfast, enrolled a total of 516 eyes from 258 diabetic patients.<br>Ultrawide scale color fundus photography was graded for<br>severity of diabetic retinopathy and predominant presence of<br>peripheral damage (&gt;50% of damage). OCT-A was obtained in 252 eyes, which<br>were examined for perimeter, area and circularity of the avascular zone and<br>vessel density, perfusion density, dimension in superficial,<br>intermediate and deep capillary plexuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><br>Their findings that perfusion density and interstitial<br>vessel density of the plexus were associated with stroke may be indicative<br>that diabetic patients with a history of stroke have major<br>alterations in the microcirculation of the retina. As the researchers explain,<br>retinal vascular lesions likely reflect similar<br>pathological processes in the cerebral microcirculation due to the retina<br>and brain sharing a similar embryological
